History of PS 46
The construction of Public School 46 was completed in 1929. It was originally called the South Beach School also known as the “Jewel of South Beach”.
Between 1950 and 1952 an addition was added to the original school structure creating a gymnasium between the second and third floor.
There have been many school logos depicting different versions of the dolphin throughout the years. However the latest logo was collaboratively created by the staff at PS 46 in March of 2024.
Why the PS 46 Dolphins? What does the logo represent?
The dolphin represents peace and harmony. This animal of the seas and oceans is joyful, graceful, compassionate, intelligent, generous and protective. It also symbolizes cooperation and freedom. Its energy is positive and it is a symbol of love, life and joy. The jewel eye of each dolphin reminds us of our PS 46 history. PS 46 is the “Jewel of South Beach”.
Dolphins are social animals and live in pods. They are not lone animals. Three dolphins depicted in our most recent logo represents endurance, unity and strength and their circular arrangement represents community. We are the DOLPHINS!
